FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In the wake of COVID-19, what precautions are you taking to prevent cross-contamination?

Super Steamers is dedicated to the safety of its employees and customers.  As a precaution, we sanitize all pieces of equipment between jobs.  Our employees wear disposible gloves and shoe covers at all times while on a jobsite.

  • How can I prepare for my appointment?

You’ll need to remove small items, small furniture such as end tables, coffee tables, dining room chairs, plants, etc. out of the rooms being cleaned.

Nick-knacks and breakables need to be removed from furniture that is to be moved.

Or, you can move out what you want and have us clean the open areas around what is left.

In preparation, a thorough vacuuming before our arrival should be done.

Pets should be secured in a safe place and children should be told not to touch any equipment during the cleaning.

  • How often should I clean my carpets?

The IICRC (Institute  of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) recommends carpet and upholstery to becleaned every 6-18 months.  More frequent cleanings may be required in commercial settings.

Your cleaning frequency is dependent on a number of factors including your lifestyle, kids, pets, color choices, housekeeping, and your level of spot cleaning success, to name a few. A good rule of thumb is to clean all carpet traffic lanes and frequently used upholstery at least once per year.

Some high use areas such as family rooms, dining rooms, halls, steps and baths may require cleaning more often, perhaps every 4-6 months. Don’t hesitate to ask for our cleaning tech’s advice while he’s there.

  • Why is Super Steamers different from other companies?

At Super Steamers, we believe that there are 5 areas that must be met for a successful professional cleaning outcome:

    -Trained Technicians

    -The Right Equipment

    -Proper Cleaning Agents

    -Technique

    -Company Philosophy

The combination of these five factors result in happy customers and  cleaner, healthier environments

  • How can I protect my floors between cleanings?

The IICRC recommends that carpet and upholstery should be vaccumed at least 3-5 times per week.  Super Steamers also offers fabric protectors that can help  protect against staining caused by liquid spills.

For hardwood floors, keeping them free of dust and debris can help prevent scratches.  Also, placing soft material such as felt on the bottoms of chairs will help prevent scratches.

  • I spilled something on my carpet, what should I do?

For a dry spill, vaccum right away.  For wet spills, blot (don't rub) right away with a clean towel  and call our team for further advise.

  • Do you guarantee to remove all spots and stains?

We have great success with most spots. A spot is something foreign on the carpet or upholstery that can be removed.

A stain is something remaining after we have exhausted all spot removal possibilities.

It’s impossible to predict the outcome prior to cleaning, so we cannot guarantee total stain removal.

However, we pride ourselves in the level of successful spot removal outcomes.

  • How long will it take to dry?

The average drying time is 4-6 hours, however, total drying times varies depending on a number of factors.

Temperature, humidity, air flow or stagnant air, carpet yarn, density and soiling are different at every job.

Some tips to help to speed  the drying process:

In cold weather, turn your heat up, turn off any humidifiers and put your thermostat fan position to “on” instead of “auto”.

You can open the whole house during warm dry weather.

Air conditioning helps during humid days. Blow air across the carpet with fans and ceiling fans.

The ideal inside temperature is 72-74 regardless of weather.

  • Do you move furniture?

Yes, we can move and replace sofas, chairs, tables, and other moveable items.

Foam blocks are used to elevate certain furniture for proper drying and special plastic tabs are used to keep the legs from staining the carpet.

We do NOT move kitchen appliances and large heavy furniture like pianos, china cabinets, entertainment centers, full bookcases, grandfather clocks, desks, or electronics.

In bedrooms, we generally clean around & under most beds and dressers because space is limited.

  • Do I have to be present the entire time that the cleaning takes place?

Someone aged 18 or older needs to be home during the cleaning appointment.

  • What about pet urine?

Please note that when cleaning urine spots, there is a difference between cleaning the urine soiling and treating for odor. Cleaning existing urine spots MAY NOT remove any associated odor. In fact, could INCREASE the odor in the air space for a temporary period of time. If you are experiencing an odor problem, there are 2 Urine Odor Treatments available. See below for an explanation of both odor treatments below.

Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floors and fabrics. It can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. When urine is first deposited onto a floor or fabric, it is in an almost “neutral” state which means it is easier to remove when it is fresh. Once it dries, it turns “alkaline” and becomes more difficult to remove. If left for days or weeks, depending on the fabric or floor type, it will permanently change the dye structure, therefore causing permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done.

**This means that no one can guarantee complete removal of all urine spots. Please consult with your technician if you have questionable urine spots on your carpet.

To prevent permanent staining in the future, clean urine spots immediately by blotting with a white terry cloth towel or plain white paper towels until no moisture is transferred. To clean the spot, mix 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water and massage (don’t rub) into the spot with a white terry cloth. Once you have “flushed” as much of the urine out as possible, blot with dry cloths until dry to the touch. *If you have a small extraction machine, flush with fresh water until spot is removed. DO NOT USE OVER THE COUNTER, GENERAL SPOTTERS OR EXTRACTION DETERGENT. IF YOU DO NOT USE THIS FORMULA, ASK US ABOUT SPECIAL PET SPOTTERS.

Referral Offers 2 Pet Odor Treatments…

    1) Minor Odor Treatment: In this treatment and odor eating enzyme will be applied directly to odor causing spots. Although this treatment is a valiant attempt, it is NOT guaranteed.

    2) Major Odor Treatment: In this treatment, we pull the affected carpet up and completely saturate the carpet, backing, and cushion (pad). This is a very extensive treatment that ensures we get to the source. *There may be cases when the walls and baseboards are contaminated preventing us from guaranteeing the removal. We will advise you in advance.
